Mountain Dental offices focus on diagnosis of gum disease at its earliest point and you will be screened for signs and symptoms of gum disease during visits to our offices. Once diagnosed, treatment for gum disease can include non-surgical treatment in-office for earlier stages, and/or referral to a specialist when necessary. Signs of gum disease can include some of the following:

• Bleeding gums
• Puffy, red, and sore gum tissues
• Bad breath
• Receding gums
• Loose teeth possibly related to loss of bone around the teeth

Whether you know you have signs of periodontal disease or think you may be starting to show some symptoms, Mountain Dental now offers a new diagnostic test that gives valuable information to your Dentist and Hygienist for the accurate diagnosis and treatment of your condition.  This NEW technology known as salivary diagnostic testing gives us detailed information about the bacteria present in your mouth, which will help to determine which medications and treatments are right for you.  This test is simple and can be performed in the dental office.

Antibiotic therapy, such as Arestin, can also be used to treat this disease and may be recommended as part of your overall care plan. It is important to remember that follow-up care at the recommended intervals (often every 3 months) is necessary to reduce risk for progression of disease. Today we know that if left untreated, gum disease can increase risk for other conditions including pre-term delivery with pregnancy, respiratory disease, diabetes and heart disease.
